Some matters to consider with respect to your comments are why Silas gets rich and why he goes broke. In particular, since he ends up nearly broke, why is the book "The RISE of Silas Lapham?" How can we say he rises more than he falls?
Does anyone want to comment on whether you think Silas is better off or worse off morally at the end of the novel than at the beginning?
