Freelance Work
Although I've always considered myself a writer, my career has seen intervals when I didn't write a lot. Like almost every writer who isn't primarily a diarist, I prefer that my writings find an audience, and absent one, pushing myself to go back to work on a novel hasn't always been a priority.
Of course, there's always freelance work. The security of a monthly paycheck has kept me from ever pursuing this option seriously. If I do, however, I'll likely gain some valuable insights from Susannah Breslin. Her Forbes piece on freelancing makes a lot of sense.
Unfortunately, I did not marry rich, and this post shows I'm not yet ready to see blogging as dead. However, I do have a certain other attribute Breslin suggests. With any luck, I'll never be hungry enough to need to freelance, but perhaps I'll want to someday.
